Lamentations

Lamentations opens on a city that was full of people and now sits alone, like a widow (Lamentations 1:1). What follows is sorrow, and grace.

Part III of Sent Ones walks the five chapters as five plain things to say about God when everything comes apart. He is right, and the grief does not argue otherwise: the Lord is righteous, for I have rebelled (Lamentations 1:18). He does what He said He would do (Lamentations 2:17).

Then the turn the book is built on. The man who says God has made him walk in darkness and broken his bones (Lamentations 3:1-6) is the same man who says the Lord's compassions never fail, that they are new every morning, and that He does not afflict willingly (Lamentations 3:22-33).

He exposes what is hidden (Lamentations 4:22), and He is still on His throne, generation to generation (Lamentations 5:19). Start here, and pick one thing worth carrying into your week.
