Daniel
Jesus told those in Judea to flee to the mountains, and He pointed back to one prophet by name: Daniel. The notes open there, in Matthew 24, and then take up the book itself.
Part V of Sent Ones walks Daniel in three movements, in the order the notes set them: Their Roots, in chapter 1; Their Rise, chapter 2 through chapter 7; and The Return, chapters 8 through 12.
Inside those movements the notes name the scenes one at a time — Nebuchadnezzar's Dream, The Firey Furnace, Nebuchadnezzar Humbled, Belshazzar and the Hand of God, Darius and the Lions Den, and Daniel's Vision — then the Vision of the Ram and Goats, a Prayer of Repentance for Israel, the Revelation of the 70 Weeks, and Daniel's Final Terrifying Vision.
The passages begin in chapter 1, where four young men from Judah are given new names, Daniel makes up his mind that he will not defile himself, and God grants him favor and compassion. Chapter 2 has the mystery revealed to him in a night vision, and a king on his face calling God a revealer of mysteries. Chapter 3 has Nebuchadnezzar counting four men walking about in the midst of the fire where three were cast in. Chapter 5 has a son who knew all of it and did not humble his heart. Chapter 6 has a night in the lions' den. Chapter 7 has One like a Son of Man coming with the clouds of heaven, and a dominion that will not pass away.
Chapter 9 carries the seventy weeks decreed for your people and your holy city. Chapter 12 closes the book sealed up until the end of time, and the notes end on four of its words with what each one holds: purged, purified, refined, and insight.
Read Daniel this week if you can, and come with your Bible open. Scripture is NASB95 throughout.
