Recap: Luke (Son Of God)
In this week’s message recap, Pastor Mark Allen continues the Gospel series by turning to the book of Luke and the theme, “Son Of God.”
The Gospel of Luke opens with an unmistakable pattern that demands our attention: the temple appears twenty times in its pages, weaving a golden thread through the narrative of Christ's life. We see Zechariah receiving the promise of John the Baptist's birth in the temple, baby Jesus being circumcised there on the eighth day, and a twelve-year-old Jesus astounding the religious scholars within its courts.
This repetition is no accident. Luke, a physician by training, carefully constructs a narrative showing us that Jesus himself is the fulfillment of everything the temple represented. The temple was where heaven met earth, where God's presence dwelt among His people, where sacrifice was offered for sin.
By constantly returning to this sacred space, Luke prepares us to understand a profound truth: Jesus is the new temple, the place where God and humanity meet. When we grasp this pattern, we begin to see that our relationship with God is no longer mediated through buildings or rituals, but through the living person of Christ.
This challenges us to examine where we truly seek God's presence in our lives today.
