Recap: Deuteronomy
In this message on Deuteronomy, Pastor Mark Allen explains that the entire book is Moses’ final sermon to a new generation preparing to enter the Promised Land. Deuteronomy means “second law,” not because God gave a new law, but because Moses retold the law to people who had not witnessed the Red Sea, manna, miracles, or the giving of the commandments. Pastor Mark walks through the book’s three major movements: the review of God’s deliverance and care (chapters 1–4), the reminder of God’s law and its purpose (chapters 5–26), and the revelation of future truths pointing to salvation in Christ (chapters 27–34). He connects Deuteronomy directly to Romans, showing how the law exposes sin, closes every self-righteous excuse, and reveals our utter inability to save ourselves. Only Christ fulfilled the law completely. Moses points forward to the Savior; Paul points back to Him. The message calls believers to fear God, trust Him, go out as witnesses, and anchor their salvation not in their own goodness but in the finished work of Jesus.
